LEO CASES relies on ScaleNC as a partner for fast and reliable NC programming

Since 2020, ScaleNC has been supporting the young company LEO CASES, a specialist in the production of high-quality operating and transport housings, in programming the TruBend 5085 press brake from TRUMPF. ScaleNC is now an essential partner for LEO CASES, offering its customer not only reliable results but also significant cost advantages compared to in-house programming.

Summary

LEO CASES, a company based in the Rhineland, Germany, that manufactures high-end aluminum operating and transport housings, was able to achieve noticeable time and cost savings with the programming of its TRUMPF press brake thanks to ScaleNC, and can now focus on its own core competencies in product development. ScaleNC handles all bending programming for LEO CASES at a fixed price with no additional licensing, training or labor costs.

About the customer

The young company LEO CASES from Bornheim in the beautiful Rhineland is an expert in the field of first-class manufacturing of high-quality aluminum operating and transport cases. With a lot of passion and creative expertise, the sophisticated housing concepts for use in industrial, military or disaster control scenarios are designed, developed and manufactured in-house. High mechanical, electrical and thermal requirements for the housings are taken into account on a customer-specific basis.

Since its foundation in 2019, LEO CASES has developed into a small family business and will continue to grow in the future.

The challenge

After milling the first small series of housings, the LEO CASES team faced the challenge of sheet metal bending soon after the company was founded as a result of a large customer order. At that time, in-house programming of the newly acquired TRUMPF TruBend 5085 bending machine often took up to 2 hours, depending on the complexity of the parts. Due to the high order volume, personnel planning also had to be well organized and optimized.

Why ScaleNC?

As a technology start-up of the TRUMPF Group, ScaleNC brings together experience and expertise in the field of CAD/CAM for sheet metal production with the ambition to provide operational support for NC programming in the daily production process as well as to rethink existing processes and optimize them through the targeted use of software automation. The result for the customer is always in the spotlight – the technology stays in the background. This enables ScaleNC to quickly take over even demanding tasks such as the programming of complex sheet metal parts without having to wait for long development cycles. Customer requirements can be taken into account straight away.

The solution

While looking for a supporting software solution for the efficient programming of their own press brake, founder and CEO Alexander Scheller became aware of ScaleNC's digital service, which had just been launched on the market. It quickly became clear that ScaleNC's offer was a perfect fit for LEO CASES' requirements: instead of investing a lot of time and money in licenses and training for in-house programming as a small company, LEO CASES benefited from results at a predictable fixed price from the first day of cooperation. The initial inquiry was promptly followed by digital onboarding by the ScaleNC experts and a personal meeting on site with Alexander Scheller and his team in Bornheim. This was followed by the first order with over 200 bending programs.

If the requirements for a bending part are complex, Alexander Scheller simply uploads the 3D models (usually STEP files) to the ScaleNC platform. The CAD/CAM specialists at ScaleNC prepare the models for sheet metal bending, taking into account complex geometries, breakouts or holes near the bending zone, and then create precisely fitting bending programs. Within 48 hours, Alexander Scheller can download the finished bending programs and use them directly on the TruBend 5085. The straightforward chat communication on the platform also enables a smooth exchange of important information directly with the ScaleNC experts.

«Through ScaleNC programming we have an enormous time saving, which we can in turn use where we need it. Plus, it's all at fair and predictable prices, since it's a one-time cost per program.»

Alexander Scheller, Founder and CEO, LEO CASES GmbH

The result

Since the start of the collaboration, LEO CASES has regularly used ScaleNC's digital services for programming the TRUMPF press brake to produce high-quality operating and transport housings. Thanks to the fast and reliable programming as well as the rapid provision of data, ScaleNC complements LEO CASES' production in an optimal way. The flexible on-demand pricing model ensures that LEO CASES only pays for what is really needed - a considerable cost advantage over in-house programming, especially in the case of small manufacturing companies with moderate programming requirements. The excellent cooperation between LEO CASES and ScaleNC has also led to noticeable time savings in the manufacturing process, which has increased LEO CASES' competitiveness in the market.
